Unlocking the Stars for Tomorrow's Leaders Through Our NASA Space Camp

The Blue Ridge School Education Foundation's Impact

At the Blue Ridge School Education Foundation, we believe that every child should have the chance to reach for the stars. Thanks to the generous support of donors, we make the incredible NASA Space Camp experience accessible to our 6th-grade students every year. This isn’t just any trip—it’s a journey where dreams take flight and curiosity knows no bounds.

A Journey Beyond the Classroom

Imagine the thrill of watching a young student launch a model rocket for the first time or experiencing weightlessness on the 1/6th Gravity Chair. Our 6th graders embark on a three-day adventure that includes:

  • An overnight Sleep in the Deep at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga.

  • A hike to view ancient petroglyphs at Russell Cove National Monument.

  • Two exhilarating nights at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL.

Here, they train like astronauts using real NASA equipment, construct and launch model rockets, and even design futuristic Martian colonies. These hands-on activities bring their past two years of curriculum to life in ways they could never imagine in a classroom.

Your Donations at Work

Every dollar donated helps fund:

  • Travel Expenses: Ensuring all students can participate regardless of their financial situation.

  • Camp Fees: Covering the costs of astronaut training programs and educational activities.

  • Materials and Supplies: Providing everything from model rocket kits to specialized training simulators.

Led by the dedicated teacher, Jennifer McKee, and supported by the Snowbird Community and independent donors, this program not only educates but inspires. Students return home triumphant and excited, with newfound confidence and a deeper understanding of aerospace careers.

Jennifer McKee

Led by their teacher, Jennifer McKee, and generously funded by independent donors, the Foundation, and Snowbird Community, 6th-grade students travel for a week to Huntsville, Alabama where they are immersed in astronaut training techniques using equipment adapted from NASA's astronaut program. They learn about space hardware, enjoy an educational water activity and experience a spaceflight mission while learning about aerospace career opportunities.
