Discover History Firsthand: East Coast Historical Trip

Step Back in Time with Blue Ridge School's 7th & 8th Graders

Day One

UNC Chapel Hill - Where History Begins
Kick off the journey at UNC Chapel Hill, the first public university in the nation! Students explore the Carolina Basketball Hall of Fame and roam around historic buildings. They even sit under the very tree where the founders signed the university's charter!

Day Two:

A Dive into Natural and State History
Next, students delve into the wonders of the NC Museum of Natural Science and the NC Museum of History. They also get an insider’s view of the State Capitol building, home to North Carolina's Executive Branch.

Charlotte Adventures: Reconstruction and Aviation

In Charlotte, the trip gets even more exciting! At the Levine Museum of the New South, students discover the Reconstruction Era and how North Carolina became a textile and industrial giant. They also visit the North Carolina Aviation Museum, where they learn about US Flight 1549, the Miracle on the Hudson. Here, students can climb into a decommissioned fighter jet cockpit and explore the state’s rich aviation history.

Final Stop: King’s Mountain

The adventure wraps up with a hike to King’s Mountain. Students stand where the tide of the American War for Independence first turned in favor of the Colonists.
